These paintings require laying down an immutable paper landscape and then slowly building up paint layers to form a cohesive image. As someone with anxiety, I often struggle to feel effective and empowered against the harsh, unyielding wider world. Working within the limitations of these canvases to make something beautiful gives me the power to shape my own narrative and adapt to the challenges facing me. Through the process, I learn how to change what’s possible and relinquish control where necessary. This painting’s shapes and colors were inspired by the microscopic, almost magical relationship between plants and light.
