Dissociation

Prismacolor and gouache on paper, 2018

In my years of experience, I have lived with dissociation. A problem where I don’t feel like I am myself or in my body. My work reflects how I feel during these episodes. By overlaying a semi transparent figure on top of the main one, I am able to show a visual of how one might process words or feelings. The red speech bubbles and the eyes drawn on them display how, I feel, others see me, confused and afraid. Overall dissociation is a very difficult feeling to convey and differs for everyone who experiences it.
