A Mother's Anxiety: Uniform
Graphite on paper with cut-out elements, 2017
Over the years, 4 pieces of the "Mother's Anxiety" series have been exhibited in the People's Gallery. This is the 7th, and latest piece, regarding my son and his experience as a soldier in Iraq, from my point of view as his mother. Each mark in this large drawing depicts a moment of anxiety experienced while he was in a war zone. He was a paratrooper in Northern Iraq. St. Michael is depicted as the patron saint of paratroopers, watching over his dress uniform with all of his medals. The squirrels run throughout this series as self-portraits.
