Phoenicopterus Ruber Ruber
Archival metallic print, 2016
From a series of portraits taken of captive animals considered threatened by human activity. The Caribbean flamingo is listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna And Flora (CITES). This appendix lists species "not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival." Human interaction - specifically hunting and habitat destruction - are the greatest threat to this species, the only flamingo to naturally inhabit North America.
