Oil on canvas, 2015
This painting is based on one of Aesop's fables, "The Cat Maiden". It focuses on the concept of nature vs. nurture.
A cat fell in love with a young man, and asked Venus to change her into a woman. Venus consented. The young man saw her and loved her, and took her home as his bride. While the two were in their chamber, Venus wished to discover if the Cat also altered her life habits by letting a mouse in the room. The Cat started up from the couch and pursued the mouse. Venus was disappointed and returned to The Cat to her former shape.
Nature exceeds nurture.
