Artwork #106

Lawrence Jolly

Oil on canvas, 2018

I love clouds and things in the clouds—whether ethereal or real—and skies are a consistent theme in many of my paintings. I’ve always also been intrigued by the massive and noisy “bird conventions” we see along telephone lines at intersections. I often wonder about the things in their individual and collective bird brains that drive this behavior. As a visual story-teller, I like to find hidden meaning, life lessons, or statements reflecting divine presence in the human condition in my paintings. So instead of painting the phenomenon of dozens or hundreds of birds gathered to watch the spectacle of human traffic patterns below, I choose to zoom in on that little thing going on in Section 105, Row 27, seats 8 and 9, where I discovered is in the air!
